The History of Carling Lake Golf
The history of Golf Lac Carling dates back to the 19th century, when the Carlin family cleared the land surrounding the lake to establish a farm.
Over the years, the property changed its purpose when the Ayers family from Lachute acquired it. They first raised cattle there, then mink, before the idea of creating a private golf club was born.
The birth of a prestigious golf course in the Laurentians
This is how the Lac Carling Golf Club took shape. The Ayers family entrusted the design of the project to Stanley Thompson, a renowned Canadian golf course architect.
In 1945, the first nine-hole course was created and welcomed the first golfers to this exceptional natural setting in the Laurentians.

A few years later, the site continued to evolve. In 1961, the renowned architect Howard Watson designed the current 18-hole course, which has attracted generations of golf enthusiasts who have come to enjoy a course renowned for its beauty and its integration into the natural landscape.
In 1984, the property was sold to German industrialist Herbert Hillebrand. That same year, professional golfer Jean Millaire partnered with Louis Michaud and André Gagnier to develop the course and make it accessible to the public, helping to make Golf Lac Carling one of the most popular courses in the region.
In 2026, a new administration undertakes a major turning point by completely renovating the clubhouse, thus restoring all its prestige and character to this iconic place.
